I ordered a factory unlock from swift unlocks last night; this morning got the "UNLOCKED" e-mail reply. There are instructions for unlocking if your phone is jailbroken (mine is) - basically put it into DFU mode and click Restore while connected to iTunes.

My question is....

Will the current ios installed on my phone create any issues during the restore or should I update to ios 5 before attempting anything. Also, I do not have a valid AT&T sim card if I encounter any activation issues.

Any other words of wisdom before beginning?

Install SAM in cydia

deactivate using SAM

Reconnect to intunes, the unlock will attach and the phone will auto acivate.

If some how he unlock did not go through you can restore your previous activation with SAM.

Only none jailbroken devices need to restore, it is the only way to deactivate the phone, for jailbroken devices you can use SAM or redsn0w to deactivate.

On factory unlocked phone no ativation is required, so if the unlock was processed and it attaches you'll never have to activate it again with an AT&T SIM.

Thanks so much,

One last question - do I take out my Vodafone sim card before I start this process? (Carrier is Vodafone in Turkey)

no don't have to

Last question (I hope), when all is done, could you please advise which steps I should take to update the ios? Thanks, I sincerely appreciate your patience (I have read many of your responses to others and I have little doubt they are as well).

Update to iOS 6.0.1? Just click restore in iTunes when connected to your computer. iTunes will then download and install the new firmware.
