I want to jailbreak this type of iPhone:

- iPhone: 3GS
- Version: 3.0.1 (7A400)
- Serial number: 88934******
- Modem Firmware (Baseband): 04.26.08

I also ran f0recast and i got these results:
- Serial nr: 88934*****
- Baseband 04.26.08
- Bootloader 6.4
- Model: MC131
- Jailbreakable?: Only with SHSH Blobs
- Unlockable? YES (Use ultransn0w)
- Tethered?: Depends on Jailbreak.

I would like to updgrade to 4.1. But i will only do so if i can do an Untethered jailbreak, and if i can Unlock. If i can not jailbreak untethered and then be able to unlock, i will not jailbreak it.
Please, let me know what is the best method to achieve this (if there is any).

I would appreciate your help :)

If you dont have shsh's saved for 4.1 you will not be able to restore to 4.1
Download Tinyumbrella and check to see if it has any blobs on cydias server.
If not you can only restore to the latest 4.2.1
You can preserve your unlockable baseband with a custom 4.2.1 ipsw created with pwnage but you will be stuck with a tethered JB.
Or wait for for a new untethered JB and only update with pwnagetool so you can maintain your unlockable baseband.

I ran tinyumbrella, and there is nothing showing under "Saved SHSHs for iPhone". Does this mean i should not upgrade to 4.1?
If i can upgrade to 4.2, can you please tell me a good source from where i can download the custom pwnage ipsw? Also, i am on Windows XP.

Thanks

Run TU again.
It's gotta have some shsh saves for your device at least the latest 4.2.1

I clicked "Save SHSH" button, and know under "All Saved SHSHs" window i see iOS versions from 3.1.2 up to 4.3b.

Ok, i am going with 4.1 then.

Also, which jailbreaking tool should i use?

Yes, that site is solid.
But take down the link cause it's not allowed to post them here.
After you download the custom Ipsw, run redsnow to put your device is pwned dfu mode and then open iTunes and hold down shift and hit restore by selecting the jb Ipsw you have saved.
You will have to have TU running in the back by selecting start TSS server while the restore is going on.
Then you might need to kick device out of recovery with TU when the process ends and you get an error at the end.
And then install ultrasnow from Cydia to unlock etc....
