Hi everyone,

I had this 3gs for a few years now and after I got my new iPhone4 I decided that I do not need my 3gs and wanted to give it to a friend of mine.

It is jailbroken and unlocked on 4.1 FW and 06.15.00 BB
I did not know that I am not supposed to reset the phone...
After resetting the phone it is stuck on the apple logo.
After observing it for a few hours(I had it left next to me while working) it seems like after a while it will restart and get stuck on the logo again.

It is not a problem if I have to say good buy to the jailbreak or the unlock.

What are the steps to get it back to a working condition?

P.S. Please let me know if you need more information.

EDIT: 16.50.00 BB changed to 06.15.00 (I am sorry about that, I did my jailbreak so long ago ...)

something very weird happened...
while trying to recover my 3gs from being stuck on the apple logo my other phone iPhone4 without being touched entered recovery mode ...
do you think it has anything to do with my 3gs?!?!?

There is no such baseband version.
You mean 06.15.00?
You can only restore it to custom firmware since you have the ipad bb.
You can either restore to a custom 4.1 since apple still signs that for the 3GS or go up to 5.1 but you will be stuck with a tethered JB.

Thank you very much for the correction Applejuiced!
Now, how do I go by restoring to 4.1?

Thanks!

You have to create a custom 4.1 ipsw with redsnow.
Then put your iphone in pwned DFU using redsnow again and restore with itunes by selecting the 4.1 firmware you created earlier with redsnow.

Enter the phone into iTunes recovery mode, restore it...you should have a back-up (finger's crossed), then restore it. I've probably done this 16 times already! And yes, I do have a 3GS myself.

5.1 is untethered on old bootrom 3GS, which the OP has.

I didn't know what bootrom his 3GS was on.
How did you figure out its on the old one?

An iPad baseband cannot be installed on a new bootrom 3GS.

Aparoph, I highly recommend doing your friend a favor by updating to 5.1 using custom firmware, and then using ultrasn0w fixer and ultrasn0w to unlock the phone if needed. The 3GS on iOS 5 is fast, has more features and is more compatible with newer tweaks in Cydia. I just restored my friend's 3GS in this way and I'm surprised how well it's performing ;)

redsnow says that only FW from 4.3.3 to 5.0+ are supported...

what should I do then?

Thanks for your respond wanzer,
now do you suggest I do that?
could you give link to how to update to 5.1?

OK I got the 5.1 on the phone but now it is asking me to active it...
How do I do that without a AT&T sim?

Easiest way would probably ask someone if they can lend you their AT&T sim card for a few seconds so that you can bypass the activation screens ;)

Do you think after the update to 5.1 the phone is still jailbroken? I cannot activate it yet so see if I have Cydia or not...

New bootrom 3GS you can flash the iPad bb.
Not any newer ones build past week 35 you cannot cause it will ruin the phone.

I'm not sure what you are saying is true.

Are you saying there are new bootrom 3GSs being made before the 40th week? Because there are numerous references all over the internet that they actually started making them starting the 40th week.

You're off.
There's 3 different types of the 3GS.
Old bootrom, new bootrom and new fixed bootrom past week 35 that you cannot install the iPad bb cause you will ruin the phone.
You're thinking about 40th week of 2009.
The new fixed bootrom is week 35 and higher 2011. A few years apart.

Thanks for the clarification, you didn't say the year before so I wasn't sure what you were talking about. However, I just got this from another similar thread:

You can install the iPad baseband on any 3GS, new or old bootrom as long as it was made prior to the 27th week of 2011 (XX127xxx..)

Apple changed to a different baseband chip at that time and using the iPad baseband kills the cellular radio.

So is it the 27th week, or 35th week of 2011 that marks the cutoff for the new baseband chip?

Yes I'm sorry 27th week.
All these weeks got me confused. It's like pregnancy week tracking:D
