3GS plug symbol and will not charge HELP!

Hi All,
Can'tseem to find a lot of info on this problem. Phone will not charge over 3% and shows the plug symbol in charge display. It also chirps at random and switches on and off at random. Have tried soft restore and seems like she's had enough. Previous owner said he had a new battery and all has been well with us until these last few days. any Ideas folks I am a bit stuck now.

Sounds like you have a bad battery.

Get a new battery.

Thanks for tha,t I guessed so but can you tell me what the plug symbol means as opposed to the normal charge symbol? just for knowledge really.
