3GS possibly faulty - jailbreak & restore queries

I have a 16gb 3GS which is jailbroken with the quickpwn thingy and recently (i dont know whether its to do with cydia update on apps) the signal has shown a good 3 or 4 or even 5 bars but the conversation has 'gaps' - more evidently that the person doesnt hear a second or two on the other side of the phone. i can sometimes hear certain things that are missing from the conversation but its woerse on their side.

Im pretty sure its a my phone having the problem. ive never dropped it or exposed it to water.

Im currently on 3.1.2 (7D11), unlocked with yellow snow and jailbroken as previously said. Im also currently (and have been) using o2 simplicity with it and havent moved house and not really had issues with 'gappy' convo's before on o2 in my area.

So the main thing is i want to restore it and check that its not the jailbreak updates thats making my calls dodgy before i do anything else. either way it needs to be restored for Apple to take it in, right?

If i do a restore now can i jailbreak properly after? i dont know if theres been any updates thats prevented this recently. Cydia says i have SHSHs 3.1. 3.1.2 on file so im good to go right?

Also as its jailbroken its quite personalised with bosspaper etc. how can i save all of the settings and apps as they were before going to take notes of what i have, adding sources, having to re download them, setting them up etc. Is this possible?

On last thing has any1 else had this problem?

Save setting and apps using aptbackup, available in Cydia, you just need to enter any extra sources you've added to Cydia after the restore.

Download firmware (IPSW) 3.1.2 for 3GS, about 240mb and available through google (nothing to do with Cydia). Then do an option+restore in iTunes and choose your newly downloaded IPSW.

DO NOT DO A NORMAL RESTORE THROUGH ITUNES OR YOU WONT BE ABLE TO UNLOCK AGAIN IN THE NEAR FUTURE (IF EVER)

ALSO THERE IS NO 3GS JAILBREAK FOR THE CURRENT FIRMWARE (which is 3.1.3)

Restore, blackra1n (or redsn0w), add your sources, download aptbackup, and download the new unlock which is blacksn0w

yeh i just read on dev team abt 3.1.3.

if i download a legit 3.1.2 surely that will not let me jailbreak again? im getting confused :s

i still have the pwned 3.1.2 file shud i not just restore to that? as its only recently that ive been having the problems and my phone has been jailbroken since last July.

i also assume that the best way to unlock is via o2 themselves right now?

Quickpwn and Pwnage tool are two different tools but similar. Quickpwn is too old for 3GS.

Pwnage Tool 3.1.4 works fine on a 3GS.

If you want to then unlock, use Ultrasn0w for baseband 4.26.xx or Blacksn0w for baseband 5.11.xx

You should probably do some research if you are concerned with basebands. If you can get your phone factory unlocked via o2, that is the preferred option, what are you waiting for ?

You can try the option+restore (Mac) or shift+restore (PC) but it seems Apple quit signing the 3.1.2 IPSW, however, I believe * since you are already JB, you can restore to the custom_restore 3.1.2.

Or, if you clicked Make my Life Easier in Cydia, you can use your SHSH files to restore.

* I think this is possible. IF I am wrong, someone will correct it, I'm sure.

Edit: I think the only way to restore to 3.1.2 is if the SHSH are stored. Disregard my other information.

Just start a fresh with redsn0w and a new 3.1.2 3GS IPSW. Keep things simple and up to date. As you said, no need to worry about basebands and unlocks since O2 will be doing it officially for you!
