just a quick question just went to att and ordered the 3gs there out of stock... the price was $252, i was thinking lastyear when i bought the 3g it was only $218 wich i bought from apple, does att charge more for tax then apple

tax from both should be exactly the same....

if the tax rate went up in your state in the last year the phone will cost more.

from what I'm hearing, Apple will charge tax on the subsidized price. AT&T will charge it on the full price.

yea i was kinda baffled when a paid today.i do live in california the tax was 52.00 from att, last year im positive it was like 18.00 from the apple store. so apple must be only taxing subsidised price maybee ill cancel the order and go buy it at apple

Don't do that, I bought my 32GB from Apple and got charged $63 in tax. In CA we get charged tax on the full unsubsidized price, no matter where we buy it.

oh true i forgot i bought mine at an apple store in nevada last year, i think they dont tax the full price there... its a california thing TAXES

Apple (and ATT, BB and Walmart) do not charge tax on the full retail price in CA (and 2 other states). The state requires them to charge tax based on that amount.

There are already 2 other threads dealing with this 'issue'.

This is so NOT true. At least in CA the tax is on full retail from everyone.

Here in Phoenix, AZ, AT&T only charged me tax on the final sale price.
My $199 3Gs cost me $215 and change. (8.3% city sales tax, not state sales tax)

I know each state and even some cities vary on how they calculate sales tax, so I suspect it will not be consistent for everyone.
