3GS Rates Suck

They haven't changed from the iPhone 3G plan. 200 texts were included with the 1st gen iPhone plan, but none with the iPhone 3G.
It's $5 for those same 200 texts on the newer (3G and 3GS) plans.
It's not likely that will change...
This was changed 1 year ago when the 3G came out and it was cheaper for the phone but they made up for it with the monthly charges.
your original iphone plan had 200 text messages only. Agreed however that their pricing for text messages does indeed suck. Sprint is the only company I think that has text messages right. They're included in the unlimited everything plans (voice, and data plans). So for $70 you get the equivalent of a $90 ATT plan.
You always have the option of not upgrading from your original iPhone.
It's not $15 more for text messaging, it's $10 more for 3G and $5 more for text. But for those of us with unlimited text on the original phone, it's still $20 (or $30 on family plan) more on top of the 200 texts.

Which makes the Palm Pre look even sweeter....Though I'll still be in line for a iPhone3G
