3GS stuck in recovery mode

Trying to restore my old 3GS to use just as an iPod. Should have just manually deleted everything because now I am stuck in a loop. Did the update and attempted to restore, received an error message on iTunes and said its in recovery mode, must restore to get out, but keep receiving the error message that it is unable to restore . Phone screen is stuck on connect to iTunes... Help?

Have you tried different USB cables? diff ports in your computer? Restarting your computer? A different computer?
