Hi guys,

I will pick up my new 4S later today and I was wondering how I should restore all my stuff that I have on my 3GS into my new 4S.

What's the best way?

Thanks.

Is the 3GS running iOS 5? I don't know that there's a definitive "best way" but if I were you, I'd personally back up to iCloud and set up the new 4S to restore from your 3GS's iCloud backup. That's what I would do.

1-Go to iTunes.

2-Plug your 3GS.

3-Backup your 3GS to your computer by Right Clicking your Device then Choosing the "Backup" option.

3-Plug your New 4S and then By right Clicking it choose the "Restore from Backup" option..

You Should get up and running With your New iPhone !!

Hope it Helped !!

My understanding is the backup from iCloud will restore everything except for music.

My suggestion for this is to back up on itunes, put all your music in a playlist. then copy it over by going under your device on itunes, music, and select the playlist(s)

I first restored from my 3GS backup, but later on I had some issues with Caller IDs from abroad and Siri not recognizing my boyfriend. All that was fixed with a clean install. I don't have iCloud yet but my contacts are on MobileMe.

Personally I would do a clean install and set it up as a new phone.

I'm setting it up as we speak from iCloud back up.

Regarding the old 3GS: I will sell it and I want to delete everything I have there. How to do it?

Settings > General > Scroll all the way down. Reset > Erase all Contents and Setting. This will erase all your data and it will be like the way you got it out of the box.

After waiting for some hours, iCould didn't really do the job.
The apps never started to work (didn't pass the loading stage).
So I did a full reset and restored it from the iTunes backup.
Faster and now it works 100%.

Even with iCloud I recommend doing the initial setup by restoring from a backup from iTunes. Since the original iPhone I've always done it that way and did the same with the 4S. It's not a good idea to use iCloud for the initial setup.
