3Gs - upgrade 4.1 to iOS5

Hello all,

I have a 3gs. Version 4.1 with firmware 06.15.00, unlocked or jailbroken (something that requires Cydia)

I want to upgrade to iOS 5, but I dont really care for my jailbreak or if it is unlocked. If fact, I would prefer if it were not unlocked or jailbroken. I only did this because I lived in another country for a few months.

Can I still do this on my own (without resulting into my phone becoming a brick)? Can i just press upgrade right away, or would i need to restore it first and then upgrade it? Does it make a difference?

Or would I have to go to a shop somewhere and get it upgraded?

The last time I upgraded my phone, some error came up and it got stuck on recovery mode. I had to get fixed in a shop, where the guys jailbreaked or unlocked it again.

you can only use cooked software now redsn0w or sn0wbreeze no more itunes only install installs. unless they get above 6.15 baseband. not likely.

YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! PLEASE UNDERSTAND THE CONSEQUENCES OF UPDATING TO 06.15.

There is no way to come back down from 06.15, and there’s no hiding the baseband version from Apple. You’ll be voiding your warranty in a very obvious way.
If some future baseband comes out with a critical fix, you won’t be able to update to it if it remains down in the 05.xx sequence (then again, you wouldn’t update to it if you wanted to keep your unlock anyway).
Starting with FW 4.2.1 if you have 06.15 on your iPhone you won’t ever be able to restore to stock firmware (it will fail). You’ll need to only restore to custom IPSWs (then again, if you’re unlocker you should already be doing that).
