3GS Won't restore (used redsnow 4.2.1 to jailbreak)

Basically i Shift updated to 4.2.1 on itunes, but it didn't go smoothly and my iphone 3GS didn't update and went into dfu mode, then i tried to jailbreak it with redsnow and install the ipad baseband, then when everything was done i had a black screen with one white line like msdos but it wasnt flashing. Now i have tried putting it in dfu mode through redsnow then trying to restore it through itunes but it isn't working it says cannot restore iphone.

What can i do to get my phone working again?

Look at a thread that has subject "3GS old bootrom custom 4.2.1 ipsw" and find my post.

on step 2 do i have to delete any of the other custom bundles or just stick the one i downloaded in there?

I think i have a new bootrom if that makes any difference.
 
No leave whatever is in that folder. All you are doing is adding or dropping the the 4.2 bundle that you got from the Dev team blog.

I am somewhat along the same lines... I have tried to upgrade my software to 4.2 with itunes... when i tried to jailbreak and install the ipad bb with redsn0w something went horribly wrong. I now can not restore with itunes cause i have the ipad bb.

I am using windows 7 64bit.

You wont be able to install the regular 4.2 now that you have the ipad baseband. you will always get the 1015 error. You have to restore to a 4.2.1 custom firmware made with pwnage tool. Do not add the iPad baseband to the custom firmware, there should be no baseband update. After restoring to the custom 4.2.1 that is when you jailbreak with redsn0w (pointing to the stock 4.2.1). After you do that and it boots up, if cydia is white and it wont open then you need to use redsn0w again to boot tethered.
 
do you know of anywhere where i can get a custom 4.2.1? and what program would i use to restore? itunes?

sorry i'm kinda a newbie with this.
 
i did what you said but i installed the ipad baseband and it works and i unlocked it as well. So everything is fine for me i guess thanks for the help.

download the latest edition of pwnage tool called unlock edition its on the iphone dev teams site. Then u create a 4.2.1 custom ipsw with it (follow a tutorial on iclarified, but on iclarified it is for 4.1 just do the same thing but with 4.2.1) then u restore that custom with itunes then after that u can do the redsnow business.
 
go here or just read the below. if u did that ipad/redsnow jailbreak unlock and now ur stuck with recovery and itunes with work with ur iphone cause of ipad firware on it.


first of all if u jailbrked with the ipad firmware with redsnow....and took the risk in order to unlock..now ur iphone has the ipad firmware...and now ur stuck at recovery...and when u try to jailbreak again u get an error (the above picture posted by swoosh0217

first of all, (You have to restore to a 4.2.1 custom firmware made with pwnage tool)
since i am on windows operating system, i can't make the custom filmware since pwnage is a mac program.....so what i did is that i searched for one that was already made. the link is below

so 2 things we will need is, 1. the custom firmware made with pwnage, and 2. ireb

NOTE: PLEASE WHEN WE BEGIN, U WILL NEED TO PUT UR IPHONE IN DFU MODE (SCREEN SHOULD BE BLACK) AND NOT RECOVERY MODE.

In recovery mode itune won't let u restore because it will say u can't restore because of that ipad firmware.
In DFU mode: when u try to restore in itunes (with the custom firmware) u will also get an error number...ireb will fix this. :)

oky lets start, i just hope u understood what i wrote above.

here are the steps

first download the custom firmware 4.2.1 for 3gs made with pwnage tool in mac (thanks to the person that unloaded it :)

Thanks for the guide. but i got some problems :S. im using Iphone 3G and i have done exactly what i should have doneand i have shift selceted the custom ipsw file (for iphone 3G) but i exactly dont know if i have got the right one. the name is: "iPhone1,2_4.2.1_8C148_Custom_Restore" 330 MB. But when i shift select it in Itunes i got the error "1600" Not "1601" and when i use "Ireb" and select "Iphone 3G" And then go back to Itunes and shift select again i got the Error "1611" :(. Please help me. and maybe send me a Another Custom Ipsw File for Iphone 3G 4.2.1. Thanks in advice
 
all i can say is try to find a custom firmware 4.2.1 for the 3g either google it or get someone to make one for u with pwage tool
 
Didnt work- what am I doing wrong?!

:confused:i got a problem.
I've followed the steps but I couldnt get out from recovery mode and into DFU. I tried to run it anyways and gave me the error, then I ran iReb and its said "failed to enter DFU". So i used recBoot to kick me out of recevery and I got a screen that has the apple logo, but I cant turn the phone off- it goes dark for like 2 seconds and then the logo comes up again?! I tried running it like that and iReb managed to get in DFU, then I ran restore again and it gave me "error 28". Now its back on the apple logo with no way to turn it off while the phone is plugged on the cord
PLEASE HELP!!

i have a 3g i have the same problem do i have to go on pwnage again and dowload a custom bundle without baseband and then restore it with the custom firmware on itunes?

i need help with my iphone 3g its stuck in rcvy mode after jailbrak with redsnow so what i did was did a custom fw with pwnage including the ipad bb but my iphone 3g already had it now i tried to restore with itunes but got the error 1015 and when i try and jail break it with redsn0w it wont recognize my custom fw

I've got error 28 with an old bootroom 3GS too. Redsn0w worked fine, the phone was OK for a week. The phone then locked up, I did a hard reset and then the phone was stuck in recovery mode. I now get error 28 and cannot restore.

Apparently error 28 is hardware related, but I'm becoming suspicious now after seeing other reports of error 28 with redsn0w.
 
I have the same problem now and just tried the following instructions :

You need to restore without using tiny umbrella. Before you do open tiny umbrella, click advanced. Deselect the box that says set hosts to cydia on exit. Then close tiny umbrella and try restoring to 4.2.1 again.

And VOILA, restored just fine !

Hope that helps someone.

Now to complete the restore and reboot and try the new greenpoison for 4.2.1 !

I am in same boat as you

iphone 3g and stuck with 1015 error when trying to install or after install just horrid.

I have mac os and 3g 16gb was unlocked jailbroke with 4.1 now tried to restore jailbreak wont work at all :(

found a fix hope this helps

What I ended up having to do was go to dev team blog
and
1.Download pwnage tool
2.ran pwnage tool
3.selected my iphone model (3g
4.pwnage tool found my firmware for my iphone
5.pwnage tool suggested download that fw
6.pwnage tool created a custom isp fw for my 3g
7.installed the new fw for my 3g and it did the whole install thing usuall.
8.Pineapple on screen and it worked! no more 1015 error finally worked for me!!!!!!


so what is the next step in this jailbreak i dont see any service just a single service bar, so what do i need to do to get this working on att gophone it was before on old jailbreak
so just need to figure out how to use on gophone and t mobile and be able to send mms
