Hello all,

Does anyone have any ideas about 3m or 10 ft cables for the new Apple studio display?

I know Apple has a 3m thunderbolt 4 pro cable that is coming soon but wondering if there is anything available now.

Would a regular usb c 3.1 cable work?

You need an actual Thunderbolt cable, either Thunderbolt 3 or 4 will work fine but Thunderbolt 4 cables are the most versatile so I’d get one of those. There’s no need to get an Apple branded one.

But are there 3m thunderbolt 4 cables available? I'm having an extremely hard time finding one.

They don't exist. The Thunderbolt spec actually doesn't allow copper 3m cables.

I don't actually know how Apple is making them! They promised a 3m Thunderbolt cable back in 2019. It never showed up and eventually they stopped talking about it. Now they're back again.

The only real (in spec) option is a fiber optic Thunderbolt cable. But they are extremely expensive and won't pass power to charge a laptop. They also tend to come in lengths a lot longer than 3m.

Again, I'm not sure how Apple is planning to make them if they aren't allowed by the spec. But thats why you're not finding them from third parties.

Okay that’s what I thought. I guess I’ll wait for apples 3m cable then. But don’t know when that’ll be released.
