I used screen protectors in the past on all of my devices since my palm pilot, mainly write shields both clear and anti-glare from ppctechs.com. Always preferred the anti-glare. PPCtechs were awesome, one would last the life of the device.

Once I got the 4s I went with a naked screen. My phones usually have a case and are pocketed. Minor scratches occured that could only be seen very close at the right angle, nothing to affect image, kinda like a decent watch crystal face.

Then last week I dropped phone face down on rock and cracked it.

Decided to put anti-glare back on the new phone, but didn't have time to order a good one, so I went to Wal-Mart, they had 3M Privacy / Anti Glare protector. I installed on my new phone, and absolutely love it. I like the touch sensitivity better, and the anti-glare/privacy is great!
