I was wondering why I see this black rubber strip at the top of the back cover on some iPad 3rd Gens while others do not. Also some have the GB size etched in a square design under the word iPad and other do not. Are these cosmetic differences depict different regions of where the item is sold or different models of the same version, etc?

ahh okay, makes sense then, what about some models having the gig etching and others don't?

The iPad mini onwards and the iPad 4th gen onwards no longer have the etching.

I notice that some 3rd Generations do and don't, so I'm wondering if only the 16GB doesn't have the etching but the other higher versions 32 and 64 GB do have this stamp?

The 3rd gen that was produced late in the year had no markings
