Hey guys. Just want to share a story and maybe get some feedback.

Before studying abroad in Europe and anticipating how much travelling I would do, I bought two "cell boost" external battery packs for my 5g ipod. I figured I would go on many planes and trains (a trip from one European country to another European country is so accessible and affordable haha), so I needed some extra juice for my ipod. Coming back from a trip, my ipod was dying so I decided to pop one of the external battery packs. Unfortunately, the battery effed up the ipod and my ipod started to smoke a bit. Now, my ipod cannot hold a charge for more than two days (even when shut off and on hold), and when I use it (even RIGHT after I fully charge it), it dies down completely well within 3 hours of MUSIC use. So here are a couple of questions.

1) It's almost one year old (the order history on Apple says it was shipped to me on Dec 29th) and I was wondering does the date it was SHIPPED the date I count my warranty from?

2) If my warranty is still valid, will Apple fix it or even replace it (maybe with a new 80 gig ipod :) ) if I come in before Dec 29th and if I tell them a 3rd party external battery pack did the damage?

I hope to figure my situation out with the help of you guys! Thanks again.
