sorry if this is a dumb question...but are these 3rd-party IMEI unlock services i see online real? for $40 they say they can deregister your device w/ apple. how do they get access to Apple's database of devices-to-carriers?

i ask because this particular site is loaded w/ typos and whatnot:

Some might be legit, some may just take your cash and run. Caveat emptor. I'd do searches first, since some sites actually have a way at getting your device unlocked while others will just leave you lighter in cash.
 
Yes. I have used that service.

They have a source in the IMEI database and that's how they unlock. If the site accepts PayPal then it is secure and you always have their security if somethings doesn't go right. I checked that site out and they do PayPal. Keep us updated if you order.
