I have 2 Macbook 12" chargers and both apple cables have freyed at the tips.

had same problem with lightning cables until i bought anker kevlar reinforced lightning cables.

however, i see a variety of charge cables that are have different power ratings. Do you use any of the following or can you recommend a brand.

anker powerline $10

I have the powerline ones and while they are thinner than the Apple ones, they are made better and seem to hold up really well.

However, none of my Apple cables have frayed so I am probably not the best person for a comparison.

The first two are USB 2.0 cables only. Dunno about the third.

I'm currently using a 3.1 gen 2 Veckle braided 3-foot cable. It is IF-Certified for 100W (so, it would also work with a MacBook Pro, and it would allow a MBP to use USB 3.1 g2). It's slightly thicker than the OEM charge cable (presumably because of the braid, because it is SuperSpeed+ capable, or both) - which doesn't bother me as I purchased it for durability. I've probably only plugged-unplugged it around 1,500 times, but thus far it is holding up well. It is also Benson-approved. This particular cable seems to be made by a specific Maker and is rebranded by various retailers that offer it (in this case, Veckle is one of those retailers.)
