So I'm in for purchasing a GaN charger for traveling with my m1pro. The stock 65W/96W chargers are just too bulky. And I am very skeptical about those non brand chargers from the amazon. so I have been trying to stick with brand names like Anker.
But I was reading a review post regarding the 100W GaN saying it is not delivery the fast charging like the stock 96W would. So it turns out this one the top voltage of the 100W GaN is only 20v vs apple delivers 20.5v. Apparently that 0.5v is all what it took to slow the charging. I then checked all my apple charges and found they are all over 20v.
65w (20.3v), 87w(20.2v).
I do have some 3rd party ones and they all capped at 20v.
I do not know the reasoning behind it. Anyone with experience or the knowledge can help to explain why there is this diffence? Now i am wondering if those 20v is just going to under delivery and/or damage the battery. There are a lot of myth about it, fast, slow... or we should just stick with the apple ones (pricy and bulky).... to be safe?

The 20.0v devices won't damage your laptop's battery, but you are correct that if the exact right voltage and amperage isn't provided, charging could be slower.
