I just exchanged by iPhone 3G for the 2nd time and it seems this third one is PERFECT. I was complaining a few days ago about REALLY slow 3G speeds in NYC and wasnt sure if it was the phone or the service in the city. I can DEFINITELY now say it was the phone. I was getting <300kbps almost every time and on my new one I just hit 1050kbps!!!!!!!!!! SOOOOO excited and I'm FINALLY satisfied with my iPhone!

I almost did the same, but...

I was about to replace mine 1 day old iPhone 3G for the same issues, but was not able to do it right away due to the known technical glitch at Apple store. I went to nearby ATT store and after replacement of the sim card I only had some slowness for about 30 mins. It is avg 1200-1600kbs for the last 2 days. No dropped calls. A lot of folks are reporting 3G related issues during last 3 days. I think it was not a iPhone issue, but possible a sim card (you got the new one every time you replaced phone) or ATT just correcting their network.

Maybe next replacement will get you higher speed  just kidding ...

Very nasty timing for both of us, really undermines iPhone reputation.

It would interesting to know a production week of your phone (4th and 5th digit in the serial number). Mine is 32.

i just did my first 3G test and it says i hit 487 Kbps as far as download speeds are

upload speed is 230 Kbps and it says thats 5.11 times faster then EDGE! :DD

Don't get too excited, you'll get 300kbps again. And lower. The 3G speeds in NYC are all over the place.

No I know this is true but I wasnt EVER getting over 400kbps. Not I'm consistently getting 700+kbps so I know there was an issue with my old iphone.
