I got a 3ware 9550-SX 8 Port PCI/PCI-X Raid controller working in my Apple Power Macintosh G5 1.8 (PCI) ( cheap motherboard version ). It works with the drivers from LSI (Complete_codeset_Mac_9-5-4.iso).
The card comes with a CLI as well as a web configuration application. I believe that other 9000 series 3ware / LSI cards could also work using the same driver. The driver can be downloaded from Broadcom's website. I only installed the driver. I did NOT install the firmware to my card.

For those who might be confused by the screenshot, the OS is Leopard and not Sierra. I have the LeopardRebirth theme applied.
I was planning on using this as a cheap quick backup for raw unedited images. I don't take many pictures. I currently have it set up as a mirrored set. I figured I can just remove one drive occasionally to an off-site as backup. Put in another drive so it can rebuild and rotate the drives out. I pulled one of the mirrored drives off and attached it to the SATA on the motherboard and it is usable as a standalone drive. This model of G5 has lots of space up front for more drives as well as the optical drive area. I know G5s use up a lot of power but occasional backups should not be too bad. I can't say that this is an optimal backup solution. If anything, finding out that it can work is pretty cool. I do not know if the raid drives can be bootable using this card. I hope someone finds this information usable. I also will say that it worked for me and YMMV. And the usual disclaimer, I am not responsible if you screw up your system trying this.
