4.0.1 problem..iP4 won't update or backup

downloaded and tried to install 4.0.1 on my iP4, but update didn't finish and my phone is now in recovery mode. It will not restore from a backup or from 4.0. I keep getting an error code 9 that seems to involve the USB. I've tried restarting everything, tried another cable and USB port. Any ideas?

Use tiny umbrella to kick out of recovery.

try putting it into dfu mode maybe? you can google search how to do that, cant remember off the top of my head

my phone isnt jailbroken, i tried recboot but it didn't help. any other ideas?
