Hey I'm trying to downgrade to 4.0.1 and I keep encountering an error through iTunes... I have backed up my shsh in cydia I changed the host file and downloaded 4.0.1 did the shift click and about 5 seconds in I get an iTunes error "the iPhone (iphone) could not be restored error 2009. Anyone else run into this ??

Also after this happens my phone restarts and 4.0.2 is still installed

you see once i download my firmwire it says it is compressed and zipped. And i just downoaded 7 zip to see if it works. Does anyone else have another program?

Rename it to .ipsw not zip format.
If your browser downloads it as zip iTunes won't recognize it.

So when i click my firmware that i want to download i have to hit save than change the format? and i heard you cant do it on a mac if you havent jailbroken before so im using a pc

Sorry im a newb at this and im the person who needs directions sometimes to understand. But let me see if this is what you are saying.
Download the firmware
Hit Save
Change the format to ipsw instead of Zip and everything shall work.
And do you recommend jailbreakme.com or something else

What exactly you want to do again?

I have a Iphone 3gs it is 4.0.2 software. I want to either downgrade to 4.0.1 and i want to jailbreak it or should i wait tell 4.1?

okay thanks and does it matter if i use a differnt program jailbreak me purple rain pwn or whatever? Like will i get a better advantage using one program over another

Just a thought - I'm sure it's been considered before, but I thought I'd ask anyway...

Do you think there is a way to engineer an SHSH blob for those who don't have one or only have a different version? For example, is there a way to code a new one or edit the code of an existing one for those who forgot to get one for 4.0.1?

Does anyone actually know how the file is constructed or the variables used? Can they be opened in notepad and customised for another device? Since mine are all on Cydia I've never really had a chance to test this.

LOL. I find it funny how notepad seems to always be the answer to editing special files.

The SHSH is a heavily encrypted public key, which is then compared to Apple's private key on their end. It would take multiple supercomputers and who knows how long to crack the encryption through brute-force. Don't hold your breath on this ever being cracked.

Not possible.

What different program? I give up.
Educate yourself a little on the topic before asking anything else.
There's nothing u can use now that will work period.

LMAO, sorry, or your favourite text editing program, although notepad is the most widely recognised but as you wish!

Alright, I was just asking ;) Was a long shot. Shame there's no way for those perhaps inheriting an iPhone with the latest firmware wishing to jailbreak and being unable to...
