Well this could be something with my iphone or the OS itself. But weirdly, when I receive a text message, phone call, it would make a different sound!

The sound itself doesn't sound like the original defaults, but rather something completely different, leading me to believe it's not just something wrong with my speakers. Plus the fact it sounds way cooler, makes me believe it could be perhaps new 4.0 default sounds? It randomly happens for an hour then goes away, and I have no way to force it to use those sounds, I just have to be lucky and wait.

Anyone else?

You mean we may have more than six options for an incoming message alert?

Apple sure does lead in innovation.

the iphone needs more message alert sounds! and also an option to create/download your own, like ringtones. 5 of my friends also have iphones and when we're all together and someone gets a text message, everyone's always like "who's is that? is that mine?" its so annoying, come on apple! so basic!

The last house I lived in I had four roommates, all had iPhones. One roommate had his girlfriend over pretty frequently. iPhone.

You know nobody's going to use "Horn". Everybody had tri-tone except for one using the glass sound. I can understand the initial release but three years later it's just getting ridiculous.

"Doo-Dee-Ding"

6 people frantically look at their iPhones, and then at each other.

And then one says "It was you!"

I can't tell you how many times I have been with my friends and one of us get a text, and we all check our iPhones.

You have 6 friends, there are 6 different tones.

Just change your alert tone, not that big of a deal.

Sent from my iPad.

TBQH the other 5 sounds are entirely lame.

 Sent from my ASUS quad core laptop

And yeah everyone and their brother has an iPhone where I live. (Just a bit north of San Fan in Cali.) It seems we have a higher percentage of iPhones here than most areas.

In most of my college classes I can safely say 3 out of 5 phones the students have will be iPhones, and throw in a few iPads/iPod touchs

I miss when I got the original iPhone on day one... I was the only one that had it in my group of friends and classes! The rest are copy-cats! lol.

Ha! Way over the heads of some, apparently...

Chime, Glass and Tri-Tone are probably the best message tones on the iPhone. I currently have Chime, it's nice and loud and I recognise it as mine when I get a message. But I also agree that there should be more tones, come on, Apple, lacking.

I agree. We need more sounds- asap.

OP- what did this new sound sound like? Gives me hope that they'll add more sounds in 4.0.

I'm confused. Are you being a d-bag on purpose or do you not realize that you're being ridiculed?
