Unless I misunderstood, there is no way I could get facetime to work on a non-authorized carrier in the US?

I bought a factory unlocked iPhone from the UK and now using it on t-mobile. So far I haven't been able to activate Facetime and waiting for 4.1 update with the promised email-based activation. Now I'm on 4.1 and at loss as to how exactly I can get this thing to work.

any idea?

Who made that promise? Not Apple.

Email activated FaceTime is for iPod touch.

So?

iPod touch got email activated Facetime. The point is why can't Apple get Facetime to work as they advertised, unless they made it clear that using Facetime on unsubsidized factory unlocked phone will not be supported.

My iPhone 4 is factory unlock unit too bought from Singapore apple,
FaceTime work fine for me,
I think you need to make sure both iPhone 4 on wifi
Turn the facetime is enable on the settings, restart the phone, you will
Notice a line saying something iPhone facetime will share with people phone number etc etc.

I got mine working without any trouble.

Buy a $20 GoPhone. Cut the SIM, put it in. Use it to activate facetime. Switch back to T-Mobile.

Did anyone find a solution?

I noticed most of these comments are a little old and probably before 4.1 came out. Was anyone able to activate their FACETIME with tmobile USA? I'm waiting for my i4 factory unlocked from Canada and want to be ready to fix this issue.

I've been jailbroken on my 3g and now 3gs for quite some time and just don't want to mess around with the jailbreaks anymore. Although I will miss the lock calendar feature...
