I have 3gs new bootroom with 4.1 jb. I am waiting for untether to unlock for 4.2.1 because there is no unlock for 4.1. My friend insists that I can unlock my 4.1 by upgrading ONLY the baseband with redsnow. Is it true??

Which BB are you on now? All that I know is that you can unlock 4.1 if you have BB 1.59.00 or lower.
your friend is correct. If yours is on 05.14 baseband and want to unlock, then you need to download ipad firmware 3.2.2 into your computer first, use redsn0w to upgrade baseband of your iphone to 06.15.00 and then unlock it with Ultrasn0w 1.2 (instruction can be found at Iclarified.com). However, there was indication that GPS is not working correctly when Iphone 3G/3GS are updated to 06.15.00 baseband. So, make sure you read and understand throughly before update to this baseband.
I will definitely check the site. I thought 4.1 untether and unlock were not possible. I cant believe that my friend is right .. hehe.
