I have 4.1 limera1n jailbroken iPhone 4.

What's the best way to get to 4.2.1 and JB with greenpois0n?

Is this possible:
Backup iPhone
Clean install to 4.2.1
Jailbreak with greenpois0n
Restore content

Yepp, this is exactly what I did myself. Worked like a charm.

i thought that error was just to show your baseband hasn't updated and you can use tinyumbrella to kick it out of DFU mode. that way you can also unlock 4.2.1 with ultrasn0w...please correct me if i'm wrong as i'm looking to do mine soon.

Have you forgotten to edit out the Cydia entry from your HOSTS-file?

tried to update to 4.2.1 now i get error 1013 on itunes and my iphone seems blocked i had 4.1 jb with limorain

Exactly the same happened to me and then i went into tiny umbrella under advanced and unchecked the box that had something about cydia (cant remember exact wording)...lol

Phone updated and now jailbroken with gp

1013 error is expected at the end of the update, if you are trying to preserve your baseband.

I assume as I bought my iPhone SIM free from Apple (UK) that the baseband problem will not be an issue for me

^ that's correct. that's why people pay more for a factory unlock. they don't have to rely on hackers to software unlock it.

go jailbreak away... if you want to that is.

You don't even need to do a clean install of 4.2.1 if you want to keep your app data (save games, etc.).

I just backed up first in iTunes and pkgbackup (for jailbreak apps, but not necessary), and then upgraded to 4.2.1 as if it was a normal upgrade. Then I jailbroke with greenpois0n and it worked fine.

The only issue with this method is that some small files get left in your preferences even after upgrade to 4.2.1, but if you are setting your JB up the same as before those files will be there anyway.

I jailbroke for the first time with my iPhone 4 yesterday to Green P0ison 4.2.1 and it's been flawless. Jailbreaking was a bit too easy for me not to do this earlier!

Mywi ftw!
