If I use a 4.2.1 bundle for pwangetool, will it preserve my 1.59 baseband? I know it will be tethered but I have no choice since my company exchange email doesn't work on 4.01. I just want to make sure it preserves my baseband if I use the bundle. thanks

Pwnage hasnt been updated yet to create custom 4.2.1 IPSW's.
The only way you can JB 4.2.1 is Redsnow and that doesnt preserve your baseband.
I heard if you update while running Tinyumbrella's TSS sever in the back you can preserve your unlockable baseband. But remember, Update dont click restore.
You will have to kick device out of recovery once its done and gives you an error message.
Up to you but I'd wait a week or two for the untethered JB to be released.

I know but you can download a 4.2.1 iphone 4 bundle for it to work. I already made the custom 4.2.1 firmware, just making sure its ok to use it without upgrading baseband

Oh, I see.
Not sure about the custom bundle for it.
I'd wait for an official release personally.
Baseband is something that if you mess up you can never go back.

im getting an error 21 in itunes when I try doing that tinyumbrella method. I press update and then gives me that error without even updating it. strange

Interesting.
It doesnt go thru the update process at all?
You try kicking it out of recovery with TU?

it says extracting software and makes couple noises but comes with an error 21. Then I have to kick it out of recovery for it to go back to 4.01. Updated new itunes but still nothing

Interesting.
I didnt think it would work in the first place but there's some that claim they have done it.
Weird...

and surprised i cant find anyone trying the 4.2.1 bundle in pwangetool to preserve baseband. I would think that would work fine but would like to get some verification

I can confirm this method works fine.
