Hi, I installed 4.2 GM yestorday and it was all good, it did show up in iTunes many times when i Synced and transfered music, but today... it doesnt, it there any settings for this? Because I can see my photos trough image capture and it will charge when connected... just not show in iTunes. Help :)

omg... Tried to hold down the home button as applesupport said, and the iPhone showed up in iTunes, I took restore, and got an error.. and now it wont even starta and I'm not able to restore it... Seems like it used the 4.1 restore when I first restored it and got the error...

So I tried manually restore from 4.2 GM, but... IT DOESNT work either :/ aaaah How can an iphone break from this?

You need iTunes 10.1 in order to sync with iOS 4.2

I already got 10.1 without it I would not have been able to install 4.2 GM

Tried to restore with DFU mode as well, both with 4.1 and 4.2, nothing works :S How can apple release a GM when it will brick their iphones if u push restore? :S:S

You need to phrase your question better OP, i don't understand what problem you're having.

Okay, the first problem I had was that the iphone 4 with 4.2 GM did not show in iTunes (but the phone worked) , I tried restore the phone as I wanted it to work in iTunes, but now it's BRICKED.

I see. If you have 10.1 and 4.2 then i doubt the issue is with the phone/itunes. Have you tried the basics, restarting your machine, trying a different USB port etc?

Have you ever used Tinyumbrella to back up your SHSH blob on your iPhone? That program edits the hosts file on your Windows install and blocks the Apple servers (it switches them to "trick" iTunes into using Cydia's) from authenticating the baseband install towards the end of the Restore/Upgrade process.

Your phone isnt bricked, you probably just didnt get the newest baseband. Does it error when iTunes says "Installing iPhone modem firmware"? Just use Tinyumbrella to kick you out of recovery mode.

Just a small correction: you don't need itunes 10.1 to install iOS 4.2.

iOS 4.2 is meant for developers only, if you restore it will try installing iOS 4.1 but Apple doesn't allow downgrading.

The IPSW might be the same but the procedure of installing and restoring it is not.
Thats why its not yet available to the public.

the only difference between installing the GM and installing final release is that GM you manually point to the file, thats no harder than opening a file in excel or whatever. i've known people that have managed to brick their iPhone doing a normal official update.

i've updated to GM every time, no issues personally.

the only reason it's not available to the public is cos they wanna give dev's a week to test their apps and get the updates ready to come out in the app store once 4.2 is officially released and to make sure there's no major bugs. manually installing an ipsw is not a reason why it's not public, thats just misinformation.....

You also need an updated beta itunes version to work with the new 4.2
The current itunes version wont support it.
