I was going to pull the trigger today with the MBP, but then I realized I wanted the 160GB hard drive. Well, when you have the 160 GB hard drive, it makes sense to spend $150 more for the 7200rpm hard drive, but that pushes wait time to 4-6weeks!!!! Leopard might be out by the time I got the computer! What should I do?:( Is this normal?

it'll be worth it:
from barefeats
"Here's the summary of our findings using QuickBench 4.0:
For sustained large block reads, the 7200rpm drive is 27% faster.
For sustained large block writes, the 7200rpm drive is 30% faster.

For small random reads, the 7200rpm drive is 24% faster.
For small random writes, the 7200rpm drive is 21% faster."

For what it's worth, I have the 17" MBP from last fall (Napa chipset), and I got the 7200rpm drive. It's very, very nice.

Yeah im waiting for it....... 1 week down.

The way I looked at it is that ive had my current mac for 3 years, and plan to do the same with the MBP so I want it to be as good as I can afford.

wait for MBP

Hello there!

U got my sympathies. I am exactly in the same boat. I am located in Austria and when I ordered my MBP 17" (6th June; all standard specs except for the hi-res matte screen) I was told that it would probably take 6 - 8 weeks to arrive.
Big big bummer!! I am already so much looking forward to get this baby into my hands!
But not for another maybe 6 weeks.
Hoping for a quick(er) delivery anyway!!
Thomas

I'm getting the BTO option for the 7200rpm drive - and have a 3 - 4 week wait (in Australia).
Definately worth getting the 7200 drive i reckon.

I upgraded my PowerBooks HDD from 5200 to 7200 and the difference was noticable - a lot more snappier OS X was. (Plus i needed a 7200 to run pro-tools m-powered!)
