So I've been thinking about setting up a NAS and I've been looking at the Synology DS413(j) and the QNAP TS-412. I'm pretty new to this so I'm not sure what features I should be looking for. The Synology seems better in just about every way but the QNAP is cheaper and it has good reviews as well.

Should i be considering anything else? Any other advice?

+1 for Synology.

Have 1812+ for a year now. I have only the OSX and some important documents on the laptop SSD, everything else on the NAS. Torrents, backups, cloud station... Keep in mind that when it comes to NAS, it's not just about the hardware.
