I discovered today that I have 4 finger Multi-touch capability... on a Macbook Pro early 2008... Was this introduced with OSX 10.5.7 upgrade?

Of course, the recent uni-body Macbook Pros has this.. but I've never heard of older Macbook Pros having the same 4 finger capabilities - despite having identical hardware.

How did you find out?
When you look Trackpad preferences is there a Four fingers option?

Oh thats interesting, I didn't know the early 2008 models had multi-touch.. I'd love to see what people say about it, because I don't remember when it came out for them

Yes, the four finger option is there in the Trackpad preferences.

The early 2008 machines were the first Macbook Pros to have multi-touch.

I'm surprised its been enabled at all because I cannot recall anything being said about 2008 laptops getting the 4 finger M.T capabilities... I thought we'd have to wait until Snow Leopard.

What does four fingers allow you to do. That strange because I just got the update and I have a mid 2008 MBP and don't have a four finger option :/

Got a screen shot? I don't see that option on my early '08 MBP and I'm running 10.5.7

SUre, I'll put up a screemshot - do you know of any free hostings for that type of thing?

Of course, we've all heard of Apple breaking things but not introducing new functionality unintentionally!
