Hey everyone,
Yesterday I finally purchased an iPhone 3G from Rogers (as, sadly, I am Canadian...) when my old phone died. The rep at the store said that all I need to really do is add a data plan to my voice plan which I have had for four years and I can get the iPhone, so that's what I did.
Because I have been with Rogers for all these years, I still have the original SIM card that they gave me (I checked on the internet, and it's a "3040" series). After everything was activated and I was back home, I turn on the iPhone to find out that there is an empty red dot over the Phone and the Voicemail icons. I did not sign up for Visual Voicemail but I do have a package that gives me the standard voicemail, so when I clicked on the Voicemail icon (inside of the Phone app) it automatically called my inbox like it should. After I input my password and everything, I find out: no messages. I go back to the home screen, and the dot is still there.
I was reading on the internet that newer 4000 series SIM cards (9th through 12th number on the card) do not have this issue, and that everything (in regards to indicators) works properly. I was just wondering, is anyone else my situation (that they signed up with Rogers and did not get the Visual Voicemail package)? Or do the 4000 series SIM cards also have a red dot on the Phone app?
I do have a spare 4000 series SIM card from when I purchased my previous phone (as well as the one that came in the iPhone), but will Rogers charge me to transfer my account to this card? It seems as if it should be free, as I already have the card and am not purchasing anything.
Thanks
