While this may turn out to be an amazing device. The cost is too prohibitive for most people. Additionally, there won’t be enough adoption to interest developers to make apps for it since they won’t be able to make profit vs making apps for something like quest 2/3 since those have hundreds of thousands sold and potential for much more profit.

I’m glad to see Apple push the envelope and I hope this will encourage others to produce even higher quality VR. I look forward to something like Ready Player One and I think that is what Meta is working towards as they use code names similar to that for their devices.

One last potential concern is having your eyes blasted by IR constantly while use the device. Hopefully no long term vision damage.

It would have been more economical to agree with the guy in the other thread.

The AVP already has a plethora of high quality third party apps that the Meta App Store can only dream of. Something as fundamental as the Office Suite and Zoom. Apple's first party apps also obviously blow Meta's attempts at software out of the water.

I also find Apple care a bit much for this and will skip it. (You're betting 20% or more chance of major damage within coverage [$2500 max repair costs])

Reading your last paragraph, I'm questioning if I just took the time to react to a serious post.

Customer with a $1200 iphone, $1500 MacBook, $800 apple watch and an $1000 ipad: Apple vision is too expensive!

Nevermind the fact there’s $4500 in devices in your room that you might be able to skip buying for a few years to get an avp instead

What are you talking about? Meta has Office Suite, Virtual Desktop, Microsoft Mesh, several games, Zoom calling integration, etc. What apps have you seen for AVP? Lol you mean apps to watch tv?

You're making a lot of assumptions thinking most people buy all those things, or the most expensive of those things all the time. Maybe iPhone, but Apple Watch and iPad? Naw.

If you are wondering why you haven't seen jack for apps for AVP yet, unless its some strange Apple NDA situation (doubt) it can best be summed up in this collective groan at WWDC:

Perfect example. Yes, there’s ‘Microsoft Word’ on the Meta App Store. It has 12 ratings and 2.4 stars. Why? It’s just a shortcut to the web version, nothing to do with a native app.

Meta’s platform is a joke for anything but gaming that some people mitigate by streaming their local desktop OS devices.

Honestly, it’s astounding that a decade after the commercial introduction of the current wave of VR devices, Apple can still come in and offer a headset that even just conceptually so obviously ***** on the competition’s fumbling attempts.

The three new Microsoft apps are terrific in Meta Quest Pro. This will work much better again with the better interface of the vision Pro. Have you actually used any of these apps or are you just speaking from Web information?

Had a Quest 3 for two months in Amazon’s generous return window. Using Office apps was an impossibility for me just because of the simple fact you had to put down the controllers to type. The hand controls were unusable.

You don't need to use the hand controllers at all with Microsoft apps with the quest. It has been entirely hand controllable for a long time. This, of course will be much better again with the apple vision pro as it never uses hand controllers. For long form typing like on Word or similar, you'll want to use a Bluetooth keyboard (or voice) just like you would with any computer. Fortunately, the vision pro gives a lot more input options than a Mac or MacBook.

Do not assume that Apple has not thought of what you have in mind. Apple is already the company on Earth that is best at selling tech products. When they set the price for the product, they will naturally consider this. Vision Pro is just the first gen device, and there will be more affordable devices in the future. The important thing is to let developers see the potential of the platform, and developers do not need to purchase Vision Pro to create apps for it.

As for the hardware itself, the price will naturally decrease during the hardware iteration process.

lol what? Did you write this with AI? You didn’t even say anything lol

What person writes a sentence like this?

He also never really said anything in the quote so I don't know how to respond?
well. I can explain this like you are 5.

Apple is very adept at selling technology products, and it can become the first or second company in terms of market value because of this. So, Apple certainly knows what the price of Vision Pro at $3500 means. If you say it's too expensive blablabla, Apple is fully aware of this.

BTW, Meta has Office Suite? Do you really have Quest 3? That is basically the Office Web Version. I wont call that an App.

Meta only has two main advantages. The first one is gaming; it can stream Steam and has VR controllers that provide genuine physical feedback for VR games. Apple currently does not have first-party VR controllers, so the lack of physical feedback is a significant drawback when playing shooting games, for example. The second advantage is that it is quite affordable.

As for the Apps on Vision Pro, it can natively run programs for iPadOS and iOS, and a simple porting is not difficult. So, "why you haven't seen jack for apps for AVP yet" is not a true statement. Building native apps specifically for 3D and MR environments takes time, that's all.

Finally, you don't need to purchase Vision Pro to develop and upload your visionOS Apps. So, the assumption that developers can't afford Vision Pro and therefore cannot develop is not a true statement.

There’s a teams app available for the Vision Pro. You can bet that I’ll join the first meeting with my virtual persona 😋

I really don’t care about the price btw, it’s just MacBook Pro money.

Edit: And really really don’t care about META, and the glasses they make.

It's always great to see completely original points of view that haven't been posted a million times before or anything.

It's not hard to come across reports that Sony can only make less than a million of the displays this year. Since every AVP needs two of those, the number would be capped to less than 500k/yr. For this reason, there would be no point in pricing this for most people (apart from probably losing money on each one), since that would only lead to frustration.
