I just got a new 24" 2.8Ghz iMac and I want to max out the RAM to 4GB. From OWC, I can get either of the following:

4 GB (2x2GB matched) OWC RAM for $99

2 2GB Micron RAM sticks (4GB total) for $156 (factory original)

2 2GB Samsung RAM sticks (4GB total) for $176 (factory original(

4 GB (2x2GB matched) Techworks RAM for $109

Which RAM is the best quality? Is it worth it? I want speed, and I'd pay the extra 80 bucks or so, but I am looking to see if the extra 80 bucks will make a difference.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/Palm-D052; Blazer/4.5) 16;320x320)

Running OWC on two machines here. No issues. With ram, if it works, it works.....no need to spend more on it.

All listed are the same speeds. No dif....

OWC is good, see if they still offer rebates on sending in your RAM from your iMac

Has anyone used both OWC and Samsung ram and was able to make a comparison?

I think I've narrowed it down to two.

OWC themselves don't manufacture the DDR chips. It can be Samsung, Infineon, or whatever on the inside (I have 4GB worth of OWC FB-DIMMs in my Mac Pro, and it works just great).

So if every working RAM is the same, why does apple chare 1000 bucks for their 4GB RAM?

So if I buy OWC RAM, is should I trade in my 2 x 1GB of ram for 20 bucks or should I keep them?

Keep them. Apparently you'll need them if you ever send the comp in for repairs. Besides that, they're a handy backup in case your RAM fails.

ipq or whatever it's called at newegg for 39.99... free shipping... I love it. works great on my macbook.

Lifetime warranty as well.

"Mac Memory" vs "Notebook Memory"

Does it matter which type of memory i get when upgrading my imac?

CORSAIR 3GB (2GB + 1GB) DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Memory for Apple Notebook

or

CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Notebook Memory

I think they are both around the same price but I am just wondering if there is a difference between "notebook" or "Mac" memory.

Also, I am upgrading in the hopes of running "bootcamp" is 2gs enough?

Speed isn't the reason to pick a reputable brand name, so much as reliability. Generally if it works, it works, but the name brands will claim to test their chips before sending them out, and you'll probably have an easier time swapping them if there is an issue.

I have found that some combinations of ram with some computers just didn't offer much of a performance boost. That's why many of us stick to certain brands.
