Hi all,

I am wondering if it would be possible to replace the 20GB 4th Generation iPod HD with a 40GB one. I am guessing this might be somewhat difficult since the 40gb HD is slightly larger?

Any experience?

Also, does anyone have a good (cheap) resource for iPod Hard Drives?

Thanks!

even IF you could do such a thing would'nt it just be cheaper to buy a new iPod?

www.techrestore.com does it. I think its 179.99 with a 24 hour turn around.

They do battery upgrades, etc.

Never used them, but I spoke with them about repairing a dead 20 gig drive in my 4th gen iPod. I decided to get a refurb color 20 gig instead for 219.00

not bad that - i love it that you can up the 1st gen ipod from 5 to 20 gb

looks like there is hope after all:cool:

I don't think you'd be able to put a 40GB drive into 20GB iPod case because of the size of the drive. The 40GB for the 4G was dual platter so unless you changed the case I don't think you'd be able to. However I think single plater 40GB drives are in the market now so maybe you could do that.
