2 x Superdrives in mac pro

hi there,
i'm pondering with the idea of installing a second superdrive in my mac pro. One of the main things i will be using the extra drive for is ripping my dvd's using handbrake. If i ever want to rip 2 dvds at the same time will this be possible and would there be a speed hit.
Any suggestions for drives would be welcome too. sorry if this seems like a newbie question but i'm bit of a novice in this area.

i wanted to know if it's even POSSIBLE to have handbrake rip two dvds simultaneously.

Copy the application and run multiple instances of it. This is the most common way to run multiple instances of certain GUI applications.
 
thanks for the quick response. so if i'm ripping two dvds at the same time, both dvds will rip at the same speed as if only one were being ripped?
 
If you are interested in ripping two DVD at once, you really need SATA DVD drives ( or one SATA and one PATA ) as PATA drives share the same bus and slow each other down.
 
You may want to wait and have confirmation that there are indeed SATA ports on the new Mac Pro's motherboard before buying a SATA optical drive. Also, if they moved installation might be even more awkward than it was in the Mac Pro 1.0.
 
i've got the 2.66ghz first gen mac pro. if i go the SATA drive route would i need anything else? and can i use 2 SATA drives in my mac pro?
 
Two SATA DVD work fine for OS X, using them under windows requires alteration to the boot loader to enable them for windows.
 
thanks for everyone's responses. i think i've mad up my mind to get a pioneer internal SATA superdrive. i just have a question about installing it, i'm assuming that when i order the drive that is all that i will get. if i were buying an IDE drive i believe that the connection is already present inside the mac pro, what cable/connection do i need for installing a SATA drive.

So, are there any other real world applications for having 2 drives? Or just wait for a BLUE RAY, assuming it will be compatible (highly unlikely).
