5400 or 7200 rpm??

Well after todays disappointing keynote, i'm going to cancel my order for the Macpro and go for a MBP.

I generally will use my machine for the usual stuff like email, Internet etc.... but i'll also be playing a few games on it such as Call of Duty 4 and Battlefield 2142. For gaming will going for the 7200 rpm drive make much difference.

Once a year i go on Football tour and i make a DVD with pictures and video using iMovie and iDVD. I understand that having the 7200 drive will make a difference when it comes to video editing, but as it's very rare is it worth it?
Could i even purchase an external 7200 rpm FW800 drive, would that be better?

Anyway a few options there and hopefully you might have some better suggestions. I'll need to act quick as i'll cancel my Macpro order in the morning and place the order for the MBP.

i like size over speed.

the largest 5400 drive is 320gigs whereas as far as i know, the largest 7200 drive is 200gigs that will fit in mbp

i dont think you can go wrong with a larger 54oo rpm drive imo

If you got the money for the 7200RPM, then go for it. I really don't think the difference will be THAT BIG. If you need the space, I wouldnt worry about the speed. 5400RPM should be fine.

I intend on keeping the machine for 3 years and just wonder how it will hold up in years to come?

It's easy to add an external drive and if i change the internal HD it'll invalidate my apple care.

If it's not going to make much difference i'll go with the 5400.

it has also something to do with the ram of the hdd and how big the files are you are normally working with.
for example:
if you wirte 2gb-file in one pice on that disk the hdd with 7200 will be faster.
if you wirte 2000 time 2kb at that hdd, the hdd with more ram will be faster.

actually i also think about to upgrade my hdd to 7200rpm. but this also needs morge energy.
but the performance you win with 7200rpm is to less. expecially in a laptop. there are other things speed killers.

So i hear that MBP have alot of heat issues...whilst gaming heat reaches its max! I was also wondering which would be better but not for money issues....actualy for heat lol!
