Go away 'Applications Folder'!

This has really started bugging me now.
A folder called 'Applications' keeps turning up in my home directory (Macintosh HD:Users:MyUser)

It doesn't have anything in it, and if I delete it, the folder reappears the next time I look (usually after re-booting).

If there some rouge program that does this?
I haven't got anything too strange installed.

Oh yeah - it's only a recent thing, it didn't happen the first time I got my Macbook (Leopard pre-installed)

Do you happen to have Speed Download installed? I noticed that it created an Applications folder in my Downloads folder. It's trying to organize my downloads for me (which I don't want it doing).

It's normal, a part of your user account. It is a place to install apps that can only be used by you.

I did install speed download, then uninstall it (because I didn't like it) so that could be the reason.
It's not on my Mac now, so I don't see why it should keep making the folder.

There's nothing in the folder, it's just blank. I didn't used to have it, and there's no point in having it. I'm the only user on my Mac so everything goes in the main applications folder.

It does have the same folder icon as the main applications folder though...

I had this back in 10.4 it contained aliases to all my apps. I don't know how it got there.

When you uninstalled Speed Download did you use the Uninstall app that came with it? It is one of a very few Mac apps that isn't really gone until you use the Uninstall app.

Yep I did, I thought someone might ask that....

It hasn't appeared since I deleted it yesterday, so I'll keep monitoring the stack every time I open a new application to see if I can find the answer...

I'll post back if I do.

Update:

It's the widget 'application update'.

Every time I use it to see if my apps are up to date it creates a folder in my library.

Annoying!

I'll email the developers...

Update No.2:

You need to go into the widget settings and delete the path ~/Applications.

As simple as that
