Does Quicktime allow desktop screen recording? If so where is the option located? I'm specifically looking for screen recording software to record under Windows Vista and am looking for a free program that I can download, I'm most interested in visual/audio performance and a time cap is ok.

If anyone knows of some good programs let me know, thanks in advance.

I like iShowU.

I couldn't get my Snapz movies to work in iMovie 08. It looked fine when I previewed in iMovie, but exporting really screwed things up.

Another free one is copernicus
but it's a bit flaky.

Copernicus flaky? It's not even good enough to be called flaky!

Jing is great, and it's free.

Another application is Snapz Pro, which is part of the MacHeist bundle as well.

:)
Jing is crap.

Snapz Pro seems to be by far, so far, the best I've come across. ;)
Kudos for having an actual installer (sign of a promising App) and good documentation - the other's documentation is crap - if they even have any user Doc(s).
Running in the background quietly ready to use, it has yet to crash my Macs and is quite user friendly.

It would be nice to be able to record video and audio separately (like Camtasia) and also be able to edit before finalizing. :D

I need to be able to continuously record 2.5 hours of screen and audio activity. Is that doable with these programs? I read somewhere that Snapz doesn't save to disk until you stop recording. That means it would have to store 2.5 hours of video in RAM which doesn't sound feasible.
