which would be faster, Running the Sims 2 from a USB HD (5400 RPM) throught USB 2.0, or running it from my iBooks 4200 RPM drive?
 
iBooks. USB 2's software controllers are much slower than even Firewire.

I don't think your hard drive speed is going to make that much of a difference though. Your video card is more likely the problem.
 
why not get a HD upgrade? they're really cheap these days!

would if it didnt void applecare, btw the sims 2 is very much playable on the mac in my sig, it just lags a little when a lot of people are around. But I heard people saying it hardly plays on G5 iMacs with 128mb video cards!

Sims 2 is a weird game: no matter how much processing power you throw at it, it'll never run great, always "well enough".
