Laser etching the case of a MBP

I have access to a few laser cutters and I am interested in laser etching a design into a friend's MBP. Would this void the warranty? It would only be the outside case. Others have done this before, but I can not find out if they voided their warranty. Check this link out for what I mean:

umm i would of thought it would void it just cause its messing with the laptop, but your not taking it apart so hard to say... best to ring apple care i guess!

anyone know where to get this done?

i would definitely check with applecare before doing that...a friend had their iPod engraved (not by Apple) and had issues with it and they would not replace it because of the engraving and couldn't rule out that "pressure" had caused the damage.

It is very cool though...if you do find out, let us know in case others are interested!

It looks really cool, but I'd be scared it would void applecare and also that I might get tired of the design!
