Hello

My wife just noticed an odd defect with her 6 month old MacBook Pro housing - a small area near the optical drive appears to have been bent or warped. She's always been careful with it, and never stacks anything on top of it.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? I did a search and there have been similar issues although nothing exactly like this.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks

Don't be so quick to say physical damage. I had a case bulge on my old MBP and it was also caused by excessive heat. So it is a possibility.

Yeah me too, but nothing like that. Take a look at the pictures and the location.

It's right by the optical drive which tends to cave from weight.

Also consider the different major heat points of a macbook pro.

The optical drive is the "coolest' running area of the entire machine.

It's a defect. There's another thread here where several people had the same caving in. The OP posted pictures.

i actually have a dent just like that on my mbp, but its near the center, right above the release button. not sure where it's from because i've never dropped it or bumped it on anything.

same here
i think it's normal when they make our mbp, there are lil cluthces that have to be squeezed tightly but yea i think this is the max

i'm not too sure how normal it is. when i went to get my logic board swapped, they made mention of that dent and how they wouldn't be fixing it.

even i can't fix my stupid dent. i tried to move my superdrive dent up with a spudger but i kinda fxed it but still has a small dent as well as on top of my remote control IR receiever (above the black hole next to latch opener)

Happened to me too!

On two separate Powerbook G4's that I owned (first one got stolen).

Mine were both in the same spot, on the right above the monitor and ethernet cable ports. I assumed it was a heat issue, but never worried about it until I sold the second one.
