I have the 42mm Series 2 watch and am thinking of upgrading to the Series 7. I'm not sure if I should size down/stay the same by going with the 41mm, or go bigger with the 45mm. My wrist is somewhere between 160-165mm, so probably a bit smaller than the average guy.

Will 45mm be too big? If it makes any difference, I would be using the Sport Band (and maybe the Solo Loop). The nearest Apple store is a few hours away, so I won't be able to try them on. Best Buy (sometimes Walmart & Target too) usually has them on display to look at, but not sure if they'll have the S7 on display any time soon...or if I'd even be able to try them on. I used the Apple Store app on my phone to see the 'actual size' images and held it over my wrist, but it isn't quite the same as actually having it on my wrist. I'm almost debating if I should just order both sizes and return the one I don't want.

Any advice? I know this is more of a personal preference thing, but I'm curious what others have done.

I’d go with the 41mm. It would still have a bigger screen than your S2, and would look better on a smaller wrist.

My wrist is also this size and i think we can wear both, it's mostly a matter of taste.
Used to have a 42mm S3, which felt a bit big back then. Switched to 40mm with the S4 and it seemed perfect.

But lately when i look at it, it feels a bit small on my wrist. Especially when i see it in the mirror.
Maybe my taste has changed a bit, because everyone wears big watches now.

Which is why i ended up ordering both sizes this time. And then i'll just compare and keep the one that feels and looks better to me.

I am also thinking about going from a 42mm sized Apple Watch (Series 3) to 41mm Apple Watch Series 7. Last picture of this post in another thread gave me some ballpark ideas about how it would look on my hand. Hopefully it helps.

Some screenshots of the screen size comparisons from this video. The display size on the 45mm Series 7 looks like a decent upgrade from the S6.
