430ex compatible

Is the 430ex compatible is the older film cameras like canon elan 7ne? I read somewhere that the "e" in ex stands for electronic or something like that. So that people can understand it works for digital slrs. However I'm not sure if it works with older film cameras. Does anyone want to shine their deciated flashes on my problem?

Yes, the Elan 7en is classed a type-A camera for the Eos flash system. More info here.
