Hmmm, I can't create sparse bundles on my AFP shares under 10.5.2. I used to be able to do this on this very machine (MacBook C2D.) I can still do this on 10.5.1 on my 2nd machine using the exact same share, but the one that has been upgraded to 10.5.2 fails:

Dialog box: Unable to create "test.sparsebundle". (Operation not supported)

Nothing interesting in console logs.

The share is hosted on a RHEL5/CentOS5 Linux box running netatalk-2.0.3-7.

I am able to successfully create regular read/write and sparse image files, just not the bundles.

Unfortunately this breaks Time Machine to an AFP share if you don't already have a sparse bundle in place. I was able to work around this by creating an appropriately named sparse bundle on my local device and then moving it to the share and growing it to an appropriate size.

Anybody else seeing this?

Okay, let me ask it another way.. Can anybody running 10.5.2 create sparse bundles on shared disks, whether they be AFP, SMB, etc.? I want to file a bug on this but I want to make sure I'm not the only one seeing it. Thanks!

Yes, I can create sparse bundles on shared disks, on an SMB, running 10.5.2
