Could Apple be standardizing the size their square devices?

Currently, we have the Time Capsule and Apple TV at 7.7 inches square, while the AEBS and Mac Mini still at 6.5 inches square? I thought it would be pretty neat if Apple changed the case to a 7.7 inch square mini, put a 3.5" drive in it, and provide easier access to upgrade say memory and/or hard drive? Or even *gasp* one expansion slot of some sort???

Just a thought...whats yours?

that would be awesome

i'd like that option. i'd say at least 2 expansion slots, one for a graphics card, and another for something else. crossing all my fingers, as this would be ideal for my situation.

I think Jobs is too concerned with form factor to consider making a computer any bigger.

It could be slightly bigger to fit in more bigger parts and still be considered "mini". It would be cool if Apple made an external graphics module that could feed into the Firewire/USB2 port of the Mac Mini to provide a nice graphics boost. I'd buy that. It could sit comfortably under the Mac Mini.

It's an interesting idea. It would standardize the size of the :apple:tv, Time Capsule and the Airport Extreme.

Interesting possibility

Matching a future Mac Mini's footprint to Apple TV, Time Capsule, etc. makes some design sense, and could set the stage for the unique bulking up of an Apple machine. But, the Mini could be bulked up a little, and still be called a mini, I think we can all agree :)

Slightly larger footprint to accommodate a 7200RPM 3.5'' HD would itself be a pretty significant upgrade to performance. Sincerely doubt Apple would allow a graphics card swap, but an upgrade to the current GMA 950 would itself be awesome.
