I tried googleing this question, but I can't seem to find when the NVIDIA 9600M (their new/future mid-range GPU to replace the 8600M) is set to be released? Does anyone know if there is an announced date yet?

I'm in the boat of annoying people who will be waiting for Montevina, so I'm hoping the 9600M will be ready by then and that the MBP will adopt it.

No

No date but from what I've read its just a number change (to match desktop) and the gpu is basically the same as the 8600M.

For those interested, a 9600m hasn't even been announced, so we can't confirm it exists.

The 9500m is just a die shrink of the 8600m, with the same clock speeds. The differences are a little more modern D10.1 support, and some power management features (cooler because smaller, too).

However, the 9500m out now is a GS, not a GT. So, if a GT version of that is coming/exists, it will likely be a hair faster than the 8600m.

My guess is that the odd numbers out now are simply for updating the directx10 support, and even numbers are coming that actually offer performance benefits. The only question is when.
