its not recomendable waste money on the 8800gt card? Iam not a gamer, well I like games and maybe I run some on the mac pro with windows... but my goal its for photoshop, ilustrador, and video edit...

what do you recommend, for me $200 more its no problem if I get best things... but if its the same or minus results... its a waste of money.

and I see this on BAREFEATS! http://barefeats.com/harper10.html

Comments please before my mac pro buy! ?

thanks

What Mac? On the iMac it is much better than the older card such as the X1600, and apple generally has mediocre graphics cards...

Keep the stock card and put your extra money into more Ram, as you can never have enough ram especially when doing video.

I think you should just stick with the base level card. The 8800GT is strong on 3D games and OpenGL but you probably wont be using much of that.

This Barefeats article directs to another: http://barefeats.com/harper8.html ("SHOOTOUT: GeForce 8800 GT versus three other GPUS for the "2008" Mac Pro")

After reading this....

"As a 3D accelerated GPU, the GeForce 8800 GT looks like a great addition to the "early 2008" Mac Pro. It's significantly faster than the two Radeon options and at $200 CTO, it's a no-brainer.

The advantage should also apply to pro 3D apps that use 3D OpenGL code for animation.

However, it's a different story with "pro apps" that use Core Image effects. For that info, we refer you to our expanded page with Motion 3 and iMaginator test results."

...I think the GF8000 is only meaningful for gaming (on a win partition too/especially!) and 3D modelling apps.
