Hi all,

I opened Activity Monitor today after Safari became unresponsive and noticed that I only had a very small amount of RAM marked as free.

Is this right?

Here's a screen shot to for you to look at:

I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.2

Thanks for looking,

1.5 GB for safari... how many tabs do you have open? it have to be a lot. and 800 MB for FX.

My safari use 500 MB with 12 tabs open. FX is on 260 MB with developer toolbar and 6 tabs.

If you have open streaming video in all your tabs i can understand this memory usage.

What are you doing with your browsers?

Thanks for your replies.

Thank you for providing the article. I shall read it next.

@MrBrekke
Here are screen shots of Safari and Firefox:

Safari

Safari became unresponsive when Top Sites tried to load in the tab I had just opened. The developer menu is on. The YouTube video wasn't playing.

Firefox

Firefox is running with a slight delay. For example I can click on a text field but the text cursor will not appear for about a second - this could well be because I have FireBug turned on though.

If you have any plugins try disabling them on at a time. and see which one creates the issue.

If nothing else works out for you try reinstalling at least your Safari.

Hope you get it working normally :)

Whats the difference between free memory and inactive memory? I always wondered this
