I just installed the Radeon 4870 graphics card (the actual Apple upgrade) in my Early 2008 Mac Pro, and I've run into a peculiar problem.
For some reason, and only sometimes, when I turn on my Mac Pro, the system doesn't recognize both monitors simultaneously. Instead it recognizes my primary monitor first, and then a few moments later, recognizes my second.
The issue is that I have a ton of stuff set up to open on that second monitor (Mail, iCal, etc), in addition to having files and folders purposely laid out on that desktop for easy access and organization. But when the computer fails to recognize them both at the same time, it throws everything that was set up for the second monitor onto my primary. So I have to go and put everything back each time (which I've stopped doing until I get this resolved, of course).
My primary monitor is hooked up via the mini-displayport with a MDP-to-DVI adapter. My secondary is hooked directly into the DVI port. The new 4870 otherwise performs exactly as it's supposed to.
What might be causing this? Loose connections? The adapter throwing things off somehow? Anybody else experienced this?
